Custom-Built Boat Trailers, Brisbane

6.9m aluminium dual-axle boat trailer, side view – Sea Raider, Cleveland, Brisbane

A custom boat trailer from Sea Raider is specified and set up to your hull, not pulled off a shelf. Every trailer we sell leaves Cleveland Marina, Brisbane with the hull support, side adjusters and winch post set to the boat it will carry, whether that boat is a 4.3m tinnie or an 8m offshore rig. The standard sizes and prices are on the boat trailer range page.

What we build to order

Our trailers come in two families. The hot-dip galvanised steel range covers boats from 4.3m to 5.7m in single-axle and tandem-axle versions, with ATM ratings of 750kg, 1200kg, 1400kg and 2000kg. The aluminium range covers larger hulls: the 6.9m dual-axle aluminium trailer and the 8.2m dual-axle aluminium trailer.

  • Roller or skid. The galvanised 4.8m and 5.7m trailers are built as a roller or skid version to suit the hull. The aluminium 6.9m runs wobble rollers with adjustable side adjusters, and the 8.2m runs a multi-roller set-up. We will tell you which suits your hull shape and how you launch.
  • Side adjusters. The 5.7m trailers use heavy-duty tube side adjusters so the rollers or skids can be aligned precisely to the chines.
  • Winch post height. The winch post is adjustable and is set to your bow eye so the boat winches on straight and sits hard against the bow stop.
  • Brakes to suit the weight. The 1200kg, 1400kg and 2000kg galvanised trailers run mechanical override brakes, which need no brake controller in the tow vehicle. The aluminium trailers are dual axle and braked.

Aluminium trailers matched to the hull

The 6.9m aluminium boat trailer (rated to 1550kg, suits boats up to around 21ft or about 6.4m) and the 8.2m aluminium boat trailer (ATM 3,490kg, suits boats up to around 8m) are custom-matched to the hull. Aluminium keeps the tare down, which matters when the boat itself is heavy and you want to stay inside the tow vehicle’s rating. Roller positions, side adjusters and the winch post are all set to the boat before it leaves the yard. They are sold on their own to owners of other brands as well as under Sea Raider boats.

Boss-range 4.5-tonne tandem packages

For the Boss range, 4.5-tonne tandem trailer packages with AL-KO iQ7 electric-hydraulic braking are available on request. Ask us when you enquire and we will quote the package for your boat.

What we need from you

To specify a trailer correctly we need four things. If you are not sure of any of them, send what you have and we will work it out together.

  1. Boat length – overall hull length, and the make and model if it is a production boat.
  2. Loaded weight – the hull plus engine, fuel, batteries and the gear you normally carry. This is what the trailer has to carry, and it decides the ATM you need.
  3. Hull type – pressed aluminium, plate aluminium, fibreglass, monohull or catamaran, and whether it has a deep vee or flat chines. This decides rollers versus skids and where the supports sit.
  4. Tow vehicle – make, model and its braked towing capacity, so the trailer and the loaded boat stay inside what the vehicle is rated to tow.

If you are not sure which ATM you need, the what size boat trailer do I need guide walks through boat length, loaded weight and ATM with a worked example. For a quick read on the two materials, see galvanised vs aluminium boat trailers.

How the process works

  1. Enquire. Call 07 3477 9338 or use the contact form with your boat length, loaded weight, hull type and tow vehicle.
  2. We recommend a trailer. We match the boat to a model and ATM from the range, confirm roller or skid, and tell you which options are worth having. A D-Flector boat stone guard can be fitted to the trailer before it leaves the yard.
  3. Quote. You get a written price for the trailer and any options. Queensland registration and delivery are quoted separately – registration is arranged on request, and delivery is priced by state as transport from Brisbane.
  4. Set-up at Cleveland Marina. Side adjusters, roller or skid positions and the winch post are set to your boat – bring it in and we set the trailer under it.
  5. Collect or deliver. Collect from Cleveland Marina, Brisbane, or we arrange transport to your state.

Frequently asked questions

Can you build a trailer for a boat that is not a Sea Raider?

Yes. Our galvanised and aluminium trailers are sold on their own to owners of any brand of boat. Tell us the boat length, loaded weight, hull type and tow vehicle and we will specify the trailer and set it up to the hull.

Roller or skid – which should I choose?

It depends on the hull and how you launch. The galvanised 4.8m and 5.7m trailers are built as either a roller or skid version. The aluminium 6.9m runs wobble rollers with side adjusters and the 8.2m runs a multi-roller set-up. We will recommend one when we see the boat details.

Do I need an electric brake controller?

Not for the galvanised range. The 1200kg, 1400kg and 2000kg trailers use mechanical override brakes, which work off the trailer’s own momentum, so nothing is fitted to the tow vehicle. Ask us about the braking on the aluminium trailers and the Boss-range packages.

Is the Boss-range 4.5-tonne package a stock item?

No. The 4.5-tonne tandem packages with AL-KO iQ7 electric-hydraulic braking are built for the Boss range on request. Ask us for a quote with your boat.

Can you register and deliver the trailer?

Yes. We can arrange Queensland registration for you – ask for a price – and we deliver to every state as transport from Brisbane, priced by state. Interstate buyers register in their home state.
